8 DAYS 7 NIGHTS SKY SAFARI KENYA
Day 1: Nairobi
- Land in Nairobi, where we’ll fast-track you through the international airport and deliver you quickly to Hemingways Nairobi Hotel
- Dinner at Hemingways Nairobi
Accommodation: Hemingways Nairobi
Set between Nairobi National Park and the foot of the Ngong Hills, Hemingways Nairobi is an exclusive boutique hotel far from the bustle of central Nairobi. An all-suite property providing full butler service, gourmet restaurant, a brasserie and a bar, it is perfectly placed for trips to Nairobi National Park and the capital.
Day 2: Nairobi & Meru National Park
- Breakfast and briefing at hotel
- SkySafari private ground transfer to Nairobi – Wilson Airport for your flight to Merui National Park
- A vast wilderness, Meru National Park features jungle, coursing rivers, swampland, khaki grasslands and gaunt termite cathedrals, all intertwined under a seemingly endless African sky. Little visited and utterly unspoilt, few places are comparable.
- Lunch at Elewana Elsa’s Kopje followed by an afternoon game drive
- Enjoy a hearty lunch at Elsa’s Kopje, perched around the rocky Mughwango hill and offering 360 degree views that stretch from the 17,000 foot peak of Mt Kenya to the east, to virtually infinity to the west.
- Dinner at camp
Accommodation: Elewana Elsa’s Kopje
The lodge overlooks the site of George Adamson’s camp at the foot of the hill and the park was the playground of Elsa the lioness of Born Free fame. Elsa’s Kopje is one of only two lodges in the National Park, so guests will have this vast wilderness practically to themselves.
Day 3: Meru National Park
- Early morning game drive followed by breakfast in the bush
- It will be worth the 5am wake-up to get out for that morning game drive when the plains are a-stir, the animals most active, the big cats returning from a night on the hunt.
- Meru has enormous diversity of habitat and wildlife, with thirteen clear spring fed rivers that is home to the basking hippo. This is lion and elephant country, but you’ll also discover rare species including caracal, the beautiful Lesser Kudu, aardwolf, and over 400 species of birds.
- Lunch at camp
- There’s time to relax back at camp – with a swim, a massage, a good book in the sun – before a buffet lunch.
- Visit the Rhino Sanctuary
- Rhinos are under constant threat from poaching, and there are only a few places you can go to in East Africa to find them living safely and comfortably in the wild. Meru is one of these places. The thick vegetation and lush swampy river lines make the Meru Rhino Sanctuary a real haven for these prehistoric giants. Forty odd rhinos, an equal mixture of black and white, are monitored closely by rangers working around the clock.
- Scenic sundowners in the bush followed by a private dinner back at camp.
- This is African’s version of Happy Hour with the most spectacular of views. Nothing says safari like an ice-cool G&T, sipped as the sun disappears.
Accommodation: Elewana Elsa’s Kopje
Day 4: Meru National Park & Loisaba Conservancy
- Breakfast at camp followed by a morning nature walk to Elsa’s Memorial
- Departure to Mughwango airstrip for a seamless and spectacular flight to Loisaba Conservancy on the Laikipia Plateau
- Game drive en-route to Loisaba Tented Camp
- The transfer from airstrip to Loisaba Tented Camp doubles as a game drive. Laikipia is one of only a few places in Africa where wildlife numbers are on the increase, and a huge array of animals – from the Big Five to endangered Grevy’s zebra – might be spotted.
- Arrive at camp in time for lunch, followed by an afternoon Game Drive and sundowners
- Dinner at camp
Accommodation: Elewana Loisaba Tented Camp
Gold Eco-rated Loisaba Tented Camp sits perched on the edge of an escarpment, with unhindered views over rolling river valleys, rich forests and open plains to Mt Kenya. Intimate and elegant in design, the camp is also a hub for cutting-edge conservation.
Day 5: Loisaba Conservancy
- Walking Safari with traditional Samburu guides
- A Samburu guide will lead you on an early walk, so you can watch, smell, feel the bush wake up.
- Return to camp for breakfast
- Take breakfast back at camp, then enjoy some down time, relaxing on the decking or dipping in one of Africa’s most astonishing infinity pools.
- Lunch at camp
- Afternoon – choice of game drive, fishing or visit with the anti-poaching sniffer dog team
- The choice is yours. Head out on a game drive for more marvellous wildlife-spotting.
- Or try casting a line in Loisaba’s great rivers.
- Or pay a visit to the conservancy headquarters to meet the sniffer dogs and the anti-poaching team to find out how they safeguard the wilderness.
- Sundowners in the bush before dinner under the stars at camp
Accommodation: Elewana Loisaba Tented Camp
Day 6: Loisaba Conservancy & Masai Mara
- Game drive en-route to Loisaba airstrip for your flight to the world famous Masai Mara
- Scour this astonishing wilderness one last time on your game-drive ride to Loisaba’s airstrip.
- Game drive en-route to Sand River Masai Mara Camp for lunch
- Your ride from the airstrip to Sand River Masai Mara Camp, a secluded spot in the southern area of reserve, is your first game drive: don’t be surprised if you meet most of the Big Five before lunch
- Afternoon game drive following by sundowners in the bush
- Keep your eyes peeled for lion, leopard and cheetah, hyena, giraffe and elephant, and 500-plus species of bird.
- Dinner at camp
Accommodation: Elewana Sand River Masai Mara
The exclusive Sand River Masai Mara Camp, hidden far away from other lodges in the Masai Mara National Reserve, is big on game, big on glamour. Exuding 1920s elegance – the classic era of African adventure – it was named one of the 50 Best Resorts in the World in the 2020 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards. Overlooking its namesake river, the camp sits right on the annual migration route, so the drama may play out just beyond your verandah.
Day 7: Masai Mara
- Early breakfast at camp before a full day game drive
- After a dawn breakfast, set off with a packed picnic hamper for a full day’s game drive, so you can delve deeper into the reserve. Nowhere in Africa is wildlife more abundant.
- Picnic hamper lunch served in the bush followed by a Masai village visit
- Much of the Greater Mara-Serengeti Ecosystem falls under the ownership of Masai communities, and a village visit – to see traditional Maasai homes and rituals, or even (for the kids) to try warrior training – makes for an eye-opening afternoon. There’s also the chance to visit a local school supported by Land & Life Foundation so you can see its work in action.
- Dinner under the stars at camp
Accommodation: Elewana Sand River Masai Mara
Day 8: Masai Mara & Nairobi
- Breakfast at camp before you are transfered back to Keekorok airstrip for your flight back to Wilson Airport, Nairobi
- Enjoy your last few hours, gazing out from camp across the watercourse and riverine forest, looking out for breakfasting beasts and birds, before driving back to the airstrip for your final SkySafari flight to Nairobi.
- SkySafari private ground transfer to Hemingways Nairobi Hotel for the afternoon where a day room will be available.
- You will be delivered to the tranquility of Hemingways, where you can freshen up in a day room and enjoy that last ice-cold Tusker before flying home.
- SkySafari private ground transfer to Kenyatta International Airport for outbound flight
