Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade 2024: A Grand Celebration to Welcome the Year of the Dragon

As the Year of the Dragon approaches, Hong Kong is gearing up for one of the most spectacular Chinese New Year celebrations in town—the “Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade.” Organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and proudly sponsored by Cathay for the 22nd consecutive year, this grand event promises to ignite the festive spirit and kick off a series of vibrant celebrations throughout the city.

The parade, themed “World Party Great Celebration,” aims to showcase Hong Kong’s dynamic energy through glamorous floats and an impressive lineup of both international and local performances. Dr. Pang Yiu-kai, HKTB Chairman, expressed his excitement, emphasizing the parade’s role in transforming the traditional festival into an international mega event. The event marks the beginning of a series of Chinese New Year activities, including the Lunar New Year fireworks display and the Chinese New Year Race Meeting 2024.

Mr. Ronald Lam, Cathay Group Chief Executive Officer, reiterated the airline’s commitment to Hong Kong, serving as the title sponsor for the 22nd year. Cathay, deeply rooted in Hong Kong for 77 years, looks forward to attracting more visitors to the city and celebrating its vibrant and diverse festival culture together.

Chinese New Year Night Parade 2024

Scheduled to commence at 8 pm in Tsim Sha Tsui on the first day of the Year of the Dragon, the parade will feature nine floats and a diverse array of local and international performing groups. The floats, adorned with auspicious dragon motifs and traditional Chinese New Year elements, will portray the dragon’s symbolic presence, bringing fortune and joy to the city.

This year’s parade boasts the strongest-ever lineup of international performers, with 16 groups from 12 countries or regions. From the Japanese all-female pop dance group Avantgardey to the Light Dancers from Spain and the Universe of Lights from Germany, the parade promises a captivating display of globally renowned acts.Local talents will also take center stage, showcasing their skills in marching bands, rhythmic gymnastics, Chinese dances, and Bollywood performances. Tickets for the “Cathay International Chinese New Year Night Parade” will go on sale from January 27, 2024. Available at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Canton Road, and Nathan Road, tickets are priced at HK$300, $450, and $480 on a first-come, first-served basis.

Following the parade, the floats will be on display at The Urban Council Centenary Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui from February 11 to 25. International teams will also perform at various locations, spreading the festive ambience and ensuring that the joyous celebration continues beyond the parade.

TIPS:

Enjoy spectator-friendly spots without cost along the parade route of Canton Road, Haiphong Road and Nathan Road. To secure a preferred spot with an optimal view, early arrival is recommended. It is recommended to travel by MTR to access the parade route along Canton Road, Haiphong Road and Nathan Road. Please disembark at Tsim Sha Tsui station or East Tsim Sha Tsui station.
